Biography

Alex Corbisiero is the great grandson of Riccardo Corbisiero, who emigrated from Naples to the United States in 1923 and established Riccardo's - a restaurant well known for its continental cuisine - in Astoria, Queens in the early 1950s.[2] Alex was born in New York City to the restaurateur's grandson and his English wife.[3] He emigrated to England with his parents shortly before his fifth birthday.[4]

Corbisiero studied at the London School of Economics.[5]

Club career

He joined the London Irish Academy in August 2005, making his professional club debut against London Wasps in the 2008 London Double Header.[6]

Corbisiero was a used replacement in the final of the 2008–09 Guinness Premiership.[7]

International career

Corbisiero has represented England at Under-18, Under-19 and Under-20 level.[5] He competed for England at the 2007 Under 19 Rugby World Championship.[8]

In 2008 Corbisiero was a member of the England under-20 team that won the grand slam[9] and reached the final of the 2008 IRB Junior World Championship.[10]

Corbisiero was eligible to represent any of three countries at senior level—England, the USA (by birth), and Italy (through his Italian great grandfather)—but cast his lot with England when he made his debut for the England Saxons against Russia at the 2010 Churchill Cup.[11][12]

Corbisiero made his senior debut for England against Italy on 12 February 2011 after Andrew Sheridan was ruled out of the match with a back injury.[4] He went on to feature in four of England's five tests as they won the Six Nations Championship, with injury ruling Sheridan out for the rest of the tournament. Corbisiero represented England at the Rugby World Cup 2011.
